Weather forecasters are expecting a dramatic change by the middle of the week.

The workweek started with lots of sunshine and high temperatures in the Omaha metro reaching the 60s.

Tuesday also calls for more warm temperatures before a big change.

“Some spots could flirt with 80 [degrees], and then, maybe, some rain, possibly some thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon, maybe some snow later Wednesday night into Thursday morning. So, some wacky March weather,” said KMTV Meteorologist Ryan McPike during KMTV Action 3 News at Midday.

The National Weather Service Omaha Office says snowfall amounts could reach 2 to 4 inches in northeast Nebraska and west-central Iowa.

An outlook issued Monday morning offered more info:

“Thunderstorms will also be possible for much of eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa on Wednesday. Some storms may be strong, mainly in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Thunderstorm chances should continue south of Interstate 80 into Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, rain will change to snow over northeast Nebraska Wednesday afternoon, with snow spreading across the rest of the area Wednesday night as colder air moves in from the north. It is too early for specific details, but accumulating snow will be possible. The highest probabilities for accumulations are generally along and north of Interstate 80, where amounts from two to five inches appear possible at this time. North winds will increase into the 25 to 35 mph range, creating areas of blowing or drifting snow. Travel could become difficult Wednesday evening and Wednesday night.”
