Winter weather returns to Omaha metro

After days of record breaking temperatures, the winter weather is back.

Since Thursday night, hundreds of plows hit the streets.

Many school districts in the metro canceled classes for Friday.

On Friday afternoon, OPD issued an accident alert.They were not going to respond to non-injury accidents. 

They said any drivers involved in those types of accidents to exchange information.

 
A winter weather advisory is in effect in the area until 9:00 p.m. Friday. 

As of Thursday afternoon, City of Omaha officials say crews are under a 24-hour operation.

Outlying areas of the metro seeing very slick conditions now.

Some storms could be strong with gusty winds and hail.

Rain transitioned into snow long before the morning commute,

Higher amounts are expected up north.

Lower amounts to the south.

On Thursday, Nebraska State Patrol asked citizens to be prepared for the upcoming storm and road conditions.

OPPD officials are reporting that nearly 3,200 customers are without power as heavy snow and wind moved through the Metro Friday.
