Nebraska Will Rely On Defensive Line Depth
Huskers Look To Improve Their Run Defense
Lincoln, NE - Over the past few years the Nebraska front seven has produced plenty of talent and great results. Guys like Jared Crick, Ndamukong Suh, and Lavonte David helped the black shirt defense regain their bite in the post-Callahan era.
Last year, that bite disappeared. Injuries along the defensive line forced some players to take on bigger roles than they were prepared for. And the Huskers put together their worst defensive season since 2007. For the first time since '07 they allowed four yards per rush. And they also allowed their highest yards per game since that same season.
This year, Crick and David are both gone, but that does not mean the Huskers will regress. All of those players that played major minutes before they were ready last season will be ready this year. All of that new experience has given the Huskers some new found depth on the defensive line. After a recent practice Defensive Coordinator John Papuchis talked about being more concerned with their rotation than first team and second team.
