Omaha native Terence Crawford was named the World Boxing Organization's Fighter of the Year Thursday night during the Gala Dinner and Awards Night.

Crawford earned the WBO super lightweight title after beating Dierry Jean Oct. 24, 2015. Crawford defended that belt against Henry Lundy Feb. 27, and then unified the belt after beating WBC super lightweight champion Victor Postol July 23.

According to ESPN, Crawford is in talks to fill Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs spot for an HBO match Dec. 10. The report said boxing promoter Bob Arum is trying to move the fight to the CenturyLink Center, but Creighton is scheduled to play Longwood that afternoon.
