“Today will be stuck in time forever.  This is news that you can’t really comprehend,” said Nebraska Football Coach Mike Riley.

It’s news that stunned Husker Nation.  Late Saturday evening senior punter Sam Foltz and former Michigan State Punter Mike Sadler died in a car crash in Wisconsin where the two were helping out at a kicker’s camp.

Tears flowed while hugs and stories were exchanged at a prayer vigil Sunday afternoon.  An emergency team meeting followed.

“He was a great example of one of those guys who came, earned his spot and he was really good, I mean really good,” said Coach Riley.

Foltz grew up in small town Nebraska, walked on the football team and worked his way into a starting role.  He was the 2015 Big Ten Punter of the Year.

“He was one of the hardest workers on the team, so he definitely had everybody’s respect,” said Sophomore Devine Ozigbo.

Sophomore Devine Ozigbo says Foltz was a friend to all and didn’t take life too seriously.

“He and I had this thing where I would pretend to long snap the football and he would always punt it no matter when and where he was.  That’s just the type of guy he was,” said Ozigbo.

Ozigbo says as tough as it was being at Monday’s workout without Foltz, the team will continue to grind and prepare for the upcoming season, because that’s what Sam would want.

“We’re just going to keep working so we can have the best season we can for him,” said Ozigbo.
