Husker Nation is mourning the loss of punter Sam Foltz after he died in a car crash in Wisconsin.

The 22-year-old was getting ready to start his last season for the Huskers and attending a kicking camp with other college and pro kickers.

The deadly crash happened during a strong rain storm in the town of Merton, Foltz was a passenger and died at the scene.

According to deputies, the vehicle lost control on the wet road sending it crashing into a tree.

Sunday afternoon hundreds showed up outside Memorial Stadium for a vigil.

Teammate Zack Darlington said Foltz was a model player and person.

“There's going to be a hole on our team now, because people like Foltz dont come around often,” said Darlington.

During Foltz’s rehab stint last year, athletic trainer Anna Gibilisco worked with him almost daily.

“He was always just wanting to work-like how do I get better, not only how do I get better but how do we get better,” said Gibilisco.

Nebraska head football coach Mike Riley said Foltz was a one-of-a-kind player. He called an emergency team meeting Sunday night.

“Cant say anything to make it better... or make you feel better...just wanted to be together,” said Riley.

Players said they will dedicated every game and every practice to Foltz.
