Creighton baseball advances in the Big East Tournament following a wild ending against Seton Hall. The Bluejays scored three times on one hit in the bottom of the ninth following three Seton Hall errors to top the Pirates in the opening round of the conference tournament.

Creighton was down 5-3 heading into the final frame of the game. Ryan Fitzgerald reached base on a walk, and following a strikeout, pinch-hitter Brennan Hammer reached base on an error. Hammer was then replaced by pinch-runner Will Bamesberger.

With runners on first and second and one out, Daniel Woodrow blooped a single into left field, sending Fitzgerald home. The throw from the outfield to home hit the backstop, allowing Fitzgerald to reach the plate safely. Seton Hall’s closing pitcher Zach Schellenger ran down the ball and launched it past home plate towards first base, allowing Bamesberger to score, tying the game at 5.

With Woodrow on third, Seton Hall attempted to intentionally walk Nicky Lopez, but threw a wild pitch sending Lopez home for the game winning run.

Rollie Lacy ended the game with a no decision. Nicky Lopez led the team with four hits, while Daniel Woodrow notched three hits an RBI and scored twice.

Creighton faces off against No. 1 seeded Xavier in the second round of the tournament tonight at 6:00. Xavier knocked off St. John’s 9-8 in its first round Big East Tournament game.
