Opening weekend did not turn out the way the Bluejays had hoped. Creighton's 14-1 loss to UAB Sunday completed the weekend sweep for the Blazers as the Bluejays move to 0-3 on the season. UAB returned the favor after Creighton swept the Blazers in Omaha last season.

The Bluejays nearly pulled off a ninth-inning comeback during Friday's matchup. After trailing 3-0, Creighton freshman Jason Allerby hit a two-run homer over the left field wall in the top of the ninth. However, Creighton stranded the game-tying run on second to end the game.

Saturday, the Jays fell 5-1 after starter Keith Rogalla allowed three runs on three hits and three walks through five innings. Senior Bryce Only led Creighton offensively with three hits, including a double and a triple.

Sunday, the Jays' errors caught up to them as Creighton was shelled by UAB in a 14-1 loss. Creighton committed five errors, the most by any Bluejay team since April of 2005.

Creighton starting pitcher Jeff Albrecht loaded the bases by walking two runners in the third, then committed an error allowing three UAB runs to score. Albrecht took the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks in four innings.

Up next, the Bluejays will look to rally back with weekend games against Santa Clara, Michigan and St. Louis in the Santa Clara tournament. The tournament begins Friday with Creighton taking on Santa Clara at 8 p.m.
