52 spots will be up for grabs when the swimmers begin diving into the pool on Sunday and they are already laser-focused on the event.

For a third time, Omaha is playing host to the Olympic swim trials.

USA swimming executive director Chuck Wielgus said Omaha is always a top choice but in 2020 it may be harder to get the trials here.

The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo are slated to start two weeks earlier than the 2016 games that means the trials would start two weeks earlier.

Gold medalist Ryan Lochte is along the hundreds of swimmers from across the country in Omaha competing for 52 spots

"You're gonna see definitely a lot of fast racing a lot of fast swims it's unbelievable it's probably one of the best swimming events ever,” He said.

It's one of the best swimming events..

In one of America’s most sports crazed cities.

Of course we wanted to know what Lochte thinks of Omaha.

"I usually just see the swimming pool and my hotel and I’m definitely going to catch up on some movies in between seasons and ill be eating a lot of Jimmy Johns,” Lochte said.
