You can check out more than books for your kids at the library. Starting Wednesday, you can check out toys too.

At the Millard branch Tuesday, the Atkins family was among those testing the new kid toys from the Omaha Public Library.

The toy plight of parents is an age old conundrum.

"I mean we try to minimize the toys that we have because its an issue of storage," DeeDee Atkins said.

The omaha library is helping storage and spending conscious parents.  Blocks, hats, kitchen toys- they're all developmental and educational. So they're not just kid tested, they're librarian approved.

"We actually had a team of librarians that work with kids every single day and they kind of put a list together of what they thought would be best for the kids, " Emily Getzschman with Omaha Public Library said.

In total, the library has more than 100 types of toys for kids ages zero to eight years old. You reserve them online, and then they're delivered to the branch. Why that way instead of just on the shelf? Staying sanitary.

"We do have a special cleaning solution," Getzschman said. "It's a non toxic solution. So every time the toys are checked back into us, they will be disinfected. And then when they go back out they will be disinfected again."

Clean enough for your kids mouths. Exciting enough for their creative minds. And cheap enough for mom and dad's wallets.
