Omaha, NE - A federal court judge ordered a public defender be appointed to represent Lucky Iromuanya. The convicted killer has also filed paperwork to seek relief from illegal detention.
A jury convicted Iromuanya in the 2004 shooting death of Jenna Cooper, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln soccer player. Iromuanya was originally sentenced to life in prison, but the Nebraska Supreme Court reduced his sentence to fifty years. They noted he has no criminal record.
Iromuanya filed for habeas corpus in Nebraska's federal court last year. That is the right to seek relief from illegal detention. In that complaint he put in the request for a public defender.
