Omaha PD to Take Part in Tweet-a-thon
Hope to bring attention to agencies using social media
Omaha, NE - The Omaha Police Department along with 150 other agencies around the world will take part in a 24-hour tweet-a-thon on March 22nd. They're hoping to bring attention to the use of social media by law enforcement.
The agencies from six countries will use the hashtag #poltwt.
Lauri Stevens is the founder of LAwS Communications and organizer of the Global Police Tweet-a-thon. In a statement she said, " We are excited to bring together police agencies around the world in this first of its kind social media event. We hope it sends the message to non-law enforcement that their police officers are up to speed with social media, and that they should use the channel to talk with police officers and to be stewards of public safety."
Omaha Police Lieutenant Darci Tierney said, "On a larger scale, we hope our participation continues to positively influence the rapidly growing acknowledgement, acceptance and use of social media by other public safety agencies."
