Omaha Man Accused of Stealing UPS Packages
Deputies applaud a quick-thinking homeowner
Omaha, NE - The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says an Omaha thief is behind bars thanks to the watchful eye of a homeowner.
The homeowner watched as a man stole a package right off his porch in the area of 156th and Ida. He quickly realized what was happening, and wrote down the thief's license plate number.
Deputies and the Omaha Police Department were able to trace the car to Hugo Sanchez's home in North Omaha.
They arrested Sanchez in connection with four separate thefts.
Chief Deputy Marty Bilek applauded the homeowner, saying, "law enforcement depends on those kind of people for our information. Maybe the information is a suspect description, maybe it's a vehicle description, just one little piece of the puzzle we don't have. You provide it to us, we are able to close the case, identify the suspect, make an arrest and recover stolen property."
They are checking to see if Sanchez is connected to any other thefts. They say he was reselling the stolen goods.
