Local Girl's "Celebration" Video A Youtube Hit
Great moments in sports can be inspiring, or downright hilarious. A Missouri Valley, IA girl's video has become a Youtube sensation almost overnight with more than 1 million views. She filmed the celebration after a Nebraska junior college basketball game.
Seventeen-year-old Abby Thurin's grandfather is the coach for the North Platte Community College Women's Basketball Team. After the team won the NJCAA Division II District F Tournament in North Platte they decided to douse Coach Richard Thurin with water. Abby knew it was going to happen, so she had her iPhone ready.
In the video posted to Youtube, you can see the girls chase Coach Thurin with the cooler and he slips on the entire bucket of water. Then another person tries to help, and falls himself.
"We weren't expecting them to take the whole cooler and go for it, and obviously neither was he (her grandfather),” Abby laughed. “He was fine, he was a little soar because he caught himself but he was laughing like crazy."
Abby's video has since exploded with almost 1.7 million views in just 3 days. She's been contacted by Yahoo, ESPN, CNN, MSN, Fox News, and Good Morning America to name a few. Abby has a message for the girl's team for next time they try to celebrate a win.
"Not everything happens as glorious as it might seem," Abby explained.
The North Platte Community College Lady Knights play in the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship Tournament on March 19, 2013 in East Peoria, Illinois.
