OMAHA, NE - Police say a man shot by an undercover police officer has died.

Friday night, Omaha police were trying to arrest Jennifer Lovings and Jason Welch as part of a meth ring.  They say Lovings rammed a police car in a Walgreen's parking lot near 50th and Center.  They say Welch reached down for something, and an undercover officer opened fire.  Police later found the car with Welch critically wounded inside.  Lovings was nowhere to be found.

Over the weekend, Police Chief Todd Schmaderer told KMTV Action 3 News the shooting was still under investigation, but it appeared to be justified.

Sunday afternoon, Lovings turned herself into police. Her father told KMTV Action 3 News that Welch was reaching for a cigarette he'd dropped on the floorboard of the car, and the shooting should never have happened.

Tuesday night, Omaha Police said they extended their condolences to the Welch family.  According to state law, a grand jury must investigate when a susect dies in custody.
