Omaha, NE- We will soon see changes being made to Gene Leahy Mall.

The City of Omaha Parks Department says renovations will start within the next few weeks.

A security fence will be installed to protect the public. Once the fence is up, the lagoon will be drained and construction will begin.

Visitors to the mall have complained about water quality, appearance and sometimes a foul smell. This project will address these issues.

According to a press release from the City of Omaha Parks Department, the city of Omaha has confirmed a total of $1,858,562.50 dollars committed for the project. Of that amount, $525,000 was granted by the Nebraska Environmental Trust and $100,000 by the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District.

The work is expected to take around 6 to 8 months.
