Omaha, NE - Feeding hungry children is the goal of "Spring To Action", a food drive announced Monday.

According to Omaha food pantries, now more than ever, children are suffering from malnutrition. Feeding America statistics show one in five children in the United States is hungry.

Heartland Hope Mission, Together; and Heart Ministry Center are asking for kid-friendly and healthy food donations.  Fruit cups and instant oatmeal are easy for children to prepare and will give them something to eat during the day.

Heartland Hope Mission Director Chelsea Salifou says children need something easy that doesn't require a stove. "Families that are barely making it don't have those additional funds to pay for breakfast and lunch for their children everyday, so its important that we are able to raise enough food to provide to children that they can make for themselves at home," says Salifou.

Every summer, children eat less because they do not have meals that are usually provided at a free or reduced cost from schools. Donations collected through "Spring into Action" will be divided through the three pantries.

Food can be dropped off at any area Sam and Louis restaurant location until May 31. Monetary donations can be made at www.omahafoodpantry.com
