Snow Is Tapering Off, But Interstates Are Slushy
OMAHA, NE - Conditions were a bit rough Sunday morning, considering how accustomed Nebraska is to snow. I live downtown and drove in to the station to help with closings and snow coverage. The trip typically takes about 15 minutes, but Sunday morning it took twice as long.
I left downtown just after 9 a.m. I-80 West was very slushy and traffic was moving about 40 miles an hour (except for the large trucks which were moving considerably faster). About five cars had slid off the interstate and were left in the shoulder. I counted two plows between downtown and the West Center Road/I/L Street exit, but they were pulled over and weren't moving any snow.
The interstate got considerably worse at the West Center Road exit, but it was manageable. Bottom line: it's understandable why so many churches cancelled services this morning. If you don't have to get out, don't. It's a good morning to stay in.
