Teacher Testifies Against Sexual Misconduct Allegations
Shad Knutson says he did not have inappropriate relations with female students
Omaha, NE - Shad Knutson took the stand today in day six of testimony. The former Nathan Hale Magnet Middle School teacher says allegations of sexual misconduct involving four female students are false.
Defense attorney Tom Riley asked his client if he inappropriately touched any of the accusers. Knutson said he did no such thing. He also said he never asked for explicit pictures, or exposed himself.
Knutson did admit, he became aware of a complaint by one of his accusers that said he asked for pictures of her. That led to a meeting with OPS human resources.
He says school officials placed him on administrative leave from December 18, 2009 to February 2nd, 2010.
Also in court Wednesday, multiple post-it notes Knutson wrote came into question. One said, "Tell me then you can have it." Knutson's defense: he wrote the note to a male student who was using his cell phone during class and wasn't supposed to.
Another note he admitted writing, "Last night was awesome. Are you mad?" In his defense, the former teacher told jurors he wrote that note to a male student who was a basketball fan about a disappointing game involving his favorite team.
In another post-it conversation Knutson said, "You gonna let me feel it?" Knutson said he wrote that letter to another boy as a bet. If the kid lost a basketball game against Knutson he had to let the teacher feel his infamous fur coat.
Knutson said school officials never questioned him about the post-it notes.
A student also accused Knutson of placing a pen on his lap and asking her to grab it. He denied that allegation.
The case is expected to go to the jury Thursday.
