Gretna City Council Approves Redevelopment Project
Plans To Revamp Old Outlet Mall
Gretna, NE -The Gretna City Council has unanimously voted in favor of a redevelopment project that will tear down one strip mall and replace it with a new one.
The Nebraska Crossing Outlet mall officially closed December 31.
It will now be replaced with dozens of new retailers.
Gretna City Administrator Jeff Kooistra said the city received a cost analysis of the project on Friday.
The report shows the project is doable and is expected to do well. "We see it as the first part of more development to occur out in that area," said Kooistra.
Kooistra said if the mall fails, for any reason, the costs would fall on the developers. The city and taxpayers would be off the hook.
The project is expected to bring in over 500 jobs.
"We've had some contacts about some other interests in developing in that area, and I'm sure it's because of that project," said Kooistra.
The new mall is expected to open this fall.
