Awaiting Blood Test Results
GRAND ISLAND, NE - Police arrested the mayor of Grand Island for suspicion of drunken driving over the weekend.
City spokeswoman Wendy Meyer-Jerke released a statement Sunday acknowledging officers did pull over Mayor Jay Vavricek on Saturday. He is awaiting the results of a blood test.
In the statement, the mayor says he apologizes to his family, the community and others who are dependent upon him "for the events that have occurred in the last 24 hours."
Vavricek says he will not comment any further.
