Bellevue, NE - There is still no word on what started a deadly fire in Bellevue on Saturday, February 23rd.  Neighbors think a space heater may be the cause.   It all has to do with when your home was built.  Newer mobile homes are safer and designed to lessen the impact of tragedies from fires.

Chuck Anderson owns Harvest Homes and for decades has sold mobile homes.  He says mobile homes can become engulfed in minutes because of their size, and the materials used to build them.  In the 1970's a federal law required mobile homes to have a higher resistance to flame.  Before that though, thousands of homes were built with flammable materials and many are still lived in today.

Bellevue Battalion fire Chief Steve Wagner says every homeowner needs to be aware of any fire risks in their home.  Do not over use outlets or put flammable material next to water heaters or furnaces.  "I've seen where mobile homes are constructed from much more combustible products in the past and burn quickly, today the homes have drywall and wood trim which burn slower," says Wagner.

The fire marshal has still not released the cause of the fire.
