Omaha School Board Members Face Election Deadline
Omaha, NE - Five of the current members of the Omaha Board of Education have not filed yet as candidates for the April primary. The deadline is Friday.
The primary election is necessary after the Nebraska Legislature passed the bill downsizing the board from 12 members to nine. The district boundaries within the Omaha school district have been redrawn and voters will elect nine new members this spring.
As of Monday afternoon, Mary Morrissey, Bambi Bartek, Shirley Tyree, Nicole Walker-Nash and Barbara Velazquez have not filed as candidates.
Current board President Marian Fey is the only candidate so far in district three. Incumbents Justin Wayne, Jennifer Tompkins Kirshenbaum, Nancy Kratky and Danyelle Baratta all face opposition in their re-election campaigns. Incumbent Sarah Brumfield is currently unopposed in district nine.
The primary election is April second, the general election is May 14.
