Omaha, NE - They're a good distance away from where TransCanada has proposed building the Keystone XL Pipeline through Nebraska, but the controversy around the pipeline still hits close to home.

Eric Williams lives in the Dundee neighborhood. He's concerned about global warming. Williams says, "the long term consequences are really what we're focused on here, not the short term profits." 

Governor Dave Heineman cleary disagrees, touting an economic windfall for the state including more jobs. He recently approved a new pipeline route that would stretch through the state but avoid the Ogallala Aquifer and sand hills.

TransCanada told Action 3 News Sunday that the company has invested over $5-billion in emission free energy but a complete transition to renewable energy will take decades. The company went on to say the oil sands and their greenhouse gas emissions impact have been overstated.
