Gun Advocates Protest New Legislation
Lincoln, NE - Just days after President Obama laid out his plans for gun control laws, gun rights advocates across the country are fighting back with "Guns Across America" rallies and Nebraskans are saying don't take away their rights.
Saturday, hundreds gathered at the steps of the state capitol to protest the new laws.
"Gun control is very dangerous, we need those rights," said Ann Yates. "People are going out and doing crazy things and they want to disarm me from protecting my family."
The people are angry, the demonstrators feel tighter gun laws are not the answer to violence. Yates says control from Capitol Hill will happen slowly and grow, "Every time a criminal does something wrong they're going to add more laws that only affect me, not the criminal."
Jim Kyncl of Omaha says the government is overstepping its boundaries. Steven Johnson from Lincoln yells out, "The second amendment shall not be infringed."
The crowd is made up of people from all walks of life. School teachers, veterans and lawyers. Not everyone at the rally owns a gun, but they all have something in common, they feel their constitutional rights are in jeopardy.
