Hagel Nomination Draws Mixed Reaction in Nebraska
Fellow Republicans React
Omaha, NE - President Obama's nomination of Chuck Hagel to Secretary of Defense drew mixed reaction on Monday in the state that Hagel represented in the U-S Senate for two terms.
Fellow Republican Mike Johanns told KMTV Action 3 News, "Chuck has said some things that are concerning about that relationship (with Israel). I want an explanation. And I think I'm entitled like the rest of the Senate to that explanation. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. " Senator Johanns said he has not made up his mind on how he would vote when it comes to confirmation.
Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer released this statement :
"I plan to closely review Senator Hagel's record and look forward to meeting with him to discuss his views on America's role in an increasingly dangerous world. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will also have the opportunity to publicly question Senator Hagel during his confirmation hearing in the coming weeks. This process will be thorough and fair, and I look forward to participating in it."
Fischer defeated Bob Kerrey in November after Hagel endorsed Kerrey.
