Omaha NE- The Newtown tragedy has people everywhere thinking about safety in schools.  Omaha public schools, and others are looking at a way of shielding students.  Bulletproof windows made possible by a thin clear adhesive.  It's what's keeping bullets from breaking glass and Midwest Security Lamination's sells the product it says can keep schools a lot safer. 

A glass window that looks shattered doesn't mean its broken.  Nothing will go through the clear film that has been applied to the interior of glass windows like those put in some Omaha schools.  Midwest Security Lamination's says once their security film is applied to a glass window or door, no hail or bullet will get through.  

Midwest Security Lamination's Manager Eric Allgood is confident in the product his company offers, "You have someone trying to break in, whether its a crowbar, sledge hammer or brick, what's going to happen is that exterior glass breaks, but the interior pane is held together."  Keeping foreign objects and intruders out.

The average cost is $12 per square foot and depending on how many laminated windows a school wants, that cost can easily add up to a couple thousand dollars.  Not everyone is happy about the cost.

Parents like Matt Maly wonder if tax payers are footing the bill for unneeded security measures, "It's such a rare occurrence that i don't think its necessary."  For others, feelings of comfort.  Glass that can withstand a bullet may prevent another school shooting.
