Winter Storm Watch
The first winter storm of the season could hit Omaha this week.
OMAHA - The first winter storm of the year could roll through Omaha on Wednesday afternoon.
The KMTV Action 3 Weather Alert Team says a storm system will spread into eastern Nebraska by midday Wednesday. It will likely start out as rain, but turn to snow by afternoon. It could be all snow in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa by Wednesday evening. Snow amounts will depend on how quickly the precipitation turns to snow. On Monday afternoon, Chief Meteorologist Ryan McPike said we could see anywhere between four and eight inches of snow
Gusty winds could also create problems, with dangerous blowing and drifting snow causing whiteout or near-whiteout conditions.
The winter storm watch will be in effect from Wednesday afternoon through late Wednesday night. A watch means there's potential for significant snow, sleet or ice that may impact travel. The KMTV Action 3 Weather Alert Team will continue to monitor conditions leading up to Wednesday.
