2 Tickets Strike Gold in Record Powerball Jackpot
Chicago, IL (AP) - Two players will share the highest Powerball jackpot ever, and the second-largest top prize in U.S. lottery history. The question is: Who are the winners waking up to new lives as multimillionaires?
Lottery officials said early Thursday that tickets sold in Arizona and Missouri matched all six numbers to win the record $587.5 million jackpot. The winners will split the jackpot.
Missouri lottery officials tracked down the winning ticket to a convenience store in Dearborn, north of Kansas City. Two one-million dollar tickets were also sold in Missouri, including one in Joplin. None of the winners have been identified yet.
In Iowa, four players won $10,000 each, one of those tickets was sold at a Council Bluffs grocery store. More than 114,000 tickets sold in Iowa will pay prizes ranging from $4 to $40,000.
Nebraska has seven $10,000 winners; including a Bellevue convenience store and Baker's Supermarket in Florence. Nebraska sold $2.6 million dollars in tickets Wednesday, a one-day record in the state.
