Record Powerball Lottery Means Lots of Anxious Players
Residents across the Metro hoped for a chance to win $550M
Council Bluffs, IA - They came in droves. Everyone feeling pretty lucky today - handing over the cash, confident they'll win the record-setting $550M Powerball lottery. "We've sold at least 200 Powerballs an hour," Michelle Berry said.
This Powerball jackpot has been rolling over since October 6th, that makes it 15 consecutive Powerball drawings without a winner.
"What are you gonna do with that kind of money?" Candy Pacheco said.
Five-hundred fifty million reasons for Iowans to purchase a $2 ticket even if they're more likely to be elected president of the United States, be bitten by a shark, give birth to identical quadruplets, or win an Academy Award.
"I see 11 a lot so I just picked ones that had to do with one and 11," Carolyn Strong said.
Some purchased just one lone ticket, others gave up wads of cash hoping to improve their one out of 175 million chances of winning.
"It's a whole mail room that we went in together. We didn't pick numbers so I'm just gonna do quick pick and we each put $5 in. There are only five of us that are doing it," Strong said.
I would take care a lot of people who need...who are kind of poor, take care of them, take care of my family," Lester Grimes said.
The winning Powerball numbers are 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 Powerball 6.
