Omaha, NE - Omaha's Kiewit Foundation wants to stock the Food Bank for the Heartland shelves for the holiday season.

The foundation is challenging Omaha to donate food and cash to the food bank by Thanksgiving.  Kiewit will make a cash donation up to $250,000 to match your donations.

"We are confident that Omahans will respond to this challenge with generosity and hope for our fellow citizens," said Kiewit Foundation Executive Director Lyn Wallin Ziegenbein. "Helping our neighbors through difficult times is a commitment that goes back to the pioneer tradition and Thanksgiving is a unique American holiday that brings people of all walks of life together to share."

Dozens of church and community pantries in Nebraska and Iowa rely on the food bank to stay open.  This year, donations have decreased as the price of food goes up.  Most-needed items include panut butter, macaroni and cheese and canned meat and fruit.

Donations can be dropped off at the food bank at 10525 J Street in Omaha.   Cash donations can be made on-line at www.fooddriveonline.org/foodbankheartland.
