President Barack Obama Wins Re-election
Mitt Romney Concedes
Barack Obama wins re-election to serve a second term as president.
After intensive campaigning in Iowa by both candidates, President Obama beat Mitt Romney in the state, collecting the six Electoral College votes.
By election day, both candidates had been campaigning for president in Iowa for nearly six years. Romney ran for president in 2008 but lost the nomination to Republican Sen. John McCain.
President Obama thanked supporters on Twitter; 'We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned'
In his victory speech told supporters "We have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the USA, the best is yet to come."
Romney called Obama to congratulate him on the win, then conceded in front of a crowd of supporters telling them "At a time like this, we can't risk partisan bickering and political posturing. Our leaders have to reach across the aisle to do the people's work."
