Metro Students Fed up with Recent Violence
Teens are taking a stand after another 16 year-old gets killed
Omaha, NE - A somber mood at Benson High today after someone killed 16 year-old Eriana Carr Tuesday night. "I'm just tired of hearing it everytime you go into school and then somebody dies it's like why do I have to hear this everytime I come to school," Lyla Baxter said.
The honor student is the third Benson student killed in a year and a half. Just after eight o'clock Tuesday night, someone shot Eriana and her close family friend, 20 year-old Nakia Johnson outside their home near 35th and Redick. Eriana died at the hospital, Nakia survived.
"She was joyful, happy, made everybody happy, smart," Pryonna Thomas said.
"When I found out Eriana died I wanted to move immediately. I didn't want to be in Omaha anymore," Xavier Johnson said.
Eriana's classmates say they're tired of the violence and are taking a stand. "Its time to speak up and let everybody know it's not ok to take a life," Thomas said.
