Contingency Plans For Nov. 6
Omaha Company Prepares For No Power On Election Day
East Coast Back Up Plans
Omaha, NE - Election Systems & Software, here in Omaha, is coming up with some election day backup plans, following Superstorm Sandy. ES & S provides electronic voting equipment in 41 states. Those machines won't work without electricity though. If areas along the east coast are still without power on election day, ES & S has come up with a way to make sure voters can still cast their ballots.
Their plans include:
-Working with state and local emergency management to receive priority status for all polling locations that may experience power outages.
-Generators
-Ballots that can be collected at the polls and scanned once power is returned.
-Back up voting equipment that has been fully charged in preparation for power outages.
-Staggered usage of voting equipment (utilizing battery power) to allow for continuous voting within a precinct.
