Nebraska Families Honored at Memorial Stadium

Lincoln, NE - Three Nebraska families and a UNL alum will be honored by the University of Nebraska for donations made to the athletic deparment.

The Grand Concourse in the new East Stadium will be named the "Janet and Gerard Keating Family Concourse".  Keating is a University of Nebraska graduate and business owner.

The Student Life Complex will be named for the Herman family of Omaha.  Dick Herman made the donation in honor of his family, including his late wife Peg and children Anne, Mike, Rick and Catherine.  Herman is a former University of Nebraska Regent.  He has supported Nebraska athletics for decades.  Herman is the former owner of Herman Brothers Trucking and D&D Distributing.

A research lab in the new East Stadium athletic wing will be named for Ernie and Jan Thayer. Their sons played football at Nebraska.  Jan Thayer is a UNL graduate and member of the Nebraska Business Hall of Fame.

Omaha businessman Robert Baltzell provided the funding for the Psychology and Cognitive Learning Lab, also in the East Stadium wing.  Baltzell made the donation to honor his aunt and uncle.

The East Stadium expansion will be completed next year.  The UNL Research Center located in the stadium will study concussions and other brain functions. "We believe the East Stadium Research facility will have a lasting impact on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and athletics worldwide," said Athletic Director Tom Osborne.

Naming rights for the new facilities have been approved by UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman and President J.B. Milliken.
