Omaha - A historic Omaha building is a getting a facelift.

The Barker Building has been a fixture of the community since 1929 on the corner of 15th and Farnam.

Today marks the end of some interior demolition and the start of remodeling. The space will be used for retail and apartments.

Pickleman's Gourmet Café and Alegent Creighton Clinic have leased two of the ground-floor retail spaces.

The apartments will be one- and two-bedroom units ranging from 750 to 1189 square feet. Those spaces will overlook the Gene Leahy Mall and other Omaha scenes.

Amenities in the building will include a large fitness facility, bike storage and storage lockers as well as dry cleaning and delivery services and more.  Parking will be available in the Paxton parking garage and on a nearby surface lot.
