Residents Warned of Armed Robber
Some south Omaha neighbors have been scared to death, threatened right outside their own homes. OPD is alerting the neighborhood northwest of 36th & Q St. about a man who's robbing people at gunpoint.
From October 18th-21st, 3 people within a 5 block radius were robbed when heading into their home or getting out of their car. The suspect shoves a gun in their face, and demands money, their purse, or their wallet.
Patricia Burian was told by a neighbor about how he was robbed at gunpoint.
"Uneasy because you don't know, and when I heard it happened twice more that's not good," Burian described.
The Omaha Police Department put out an alert to neighborhood watches about what’s been happening. Officers who patrol the area are paying special attention to suspicious activity.
Mike Battershell, President of the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance, says they're installing security cameras in some alleys. He adds citizens are the best way to keep communities safe.
“We're not going to stand for it happening in south Omaha,” Battershell explained. "Be watching for your neighbors so if you see a truck that doesn't belong or a vehicle that doesn't belong say why are you here? And it's ok to dial 911."
The suspect is described as a black male, 6’1”, 230-270 lbs. in his 30's.
Police say call 911 if you see any suspicious activity.
