Update: Man Faces Charges For Crash That Killed Two Children
Two children died, mother hurt, another child not injured
Omaha, NE - A deadly crash kills two young children.
Police tell us, shortly after midnight, 28-year-old Chanelle Torry and her boyfriend, 35-year-old Christopher Phelps, got into an argument at Phelps' home at 87th & Quest Street.
Chanelle told Christopher to drive her and her three daughters home, to 27th & Fontenelle Blvd. She was unable to get her kids buckled in before Christopher sped off. He lost control of the SUV, causing it to flip and land in a ditch.
5-year-old Mela Torry and 4-year-old Laela Torry, were thrown from the SUV and died at the scene. Chanelle was taken to UNMC for head injuries. Her 15-month-old daughter Brielle Torry, was not hurt.
There is evidence that Christopher was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He is Douglas County jail and faces two counts of felony motor vehicle homicide.
A fund has been set-up to help the family bury the two girls at Metro Credit Union.
It's the Torry-Tooley Benefit Account.
