Body of Missing Man Found
A 69-year-old California man who went missing after boarding an Amtrak train has been found dead. A post on the Facebook page dedicated to finding Charlie Dowd reads:
"The Dowd family is saddened to share the news that the body of Charlie Dowd was found Friday, September 21 in Haigler, NE, an area between Fort Morgan, CO and McCook, NE. The body was spotted by a BNSF railway worker and immediately reported to the authorities."
Charlie Dowd boarded the Chicago-bound train September 13th. His belongings made it to Chicago, but he never did. Passengers reported seeing him looking disoriented by an open door.
His family has been searching for him in Nebraska and Colorado ever since.
The family's Facebook statement goes on to say:
"While the family is devastated, they would like to express their gratitude for the many prayers, support, and messages posted to the Charlie Dowd Facebook page, and for the efforts of the many volunteers who have helped search for him this past week."
