Papillion Ranked #1 Best Small Town in America
Papillion- The city of Papillion can add another award to its list. They're ranked #1 in Livability.com’s list of the Best Small Towns in America. Here's what the website has to say:
"Known for excellent schools, a successful agriculture industry and diverse economy, Papillion, NE, also has the lowest unemployment rate and one of the lowest crime rates of any city on this list.
More than 28 percent of Papillion is park space including 12 city parks, athletic fields and complexes, a city-wide trail system, and The Papio Bay Water Park. The city also operates two golf courses and a 105-acre lake stocked with fish.
The Omaha Storm Chasers, a minor league baseball team, plays in Papillion. While there are about 30 restaurants in Papillion, there are plenty more just minutes away in nearby towns. Nebraska Brewing Company, a favorite local watering hole, makes more than 12 beers. Among the best places to catch live performances from nationally known to local acts is the Sumtur Amphitheater at Walnut Creek, which has seating for more than 2,000 and hosts more than 80 events each year. There's also a small music venue in town called The Rock.
Each summer the city holds Papillion Days, a four-day celebration that includes a carnival, parade, road race, and lots of food and crafts. The nearby Offutt Air Force Base holds an annual Open House and Air Show widely attended by Papillion and Sarpy County residents. The city of Papillion hosts several small events throughout the year including movie nights at neighborhood parks.
