28 Months Later: Settlement In 7-Year-Old's Death
Omaha, NE - The family of a seven-year-old boy who was crushed by a falling tree branch is being compensated by the city and other parties named in a 2010 lawsuit.
Attorneys say the settlement is confidential but a spokesman for the city tells KMTV Action 3 News the city is paying $5,000 to Jeremiah Williams' family. The other parties in the lawsuit are the Omaha Housing Authority and Eden Tree and Landscape.
Jeremiah's family filed the lawsuit for $3 million in December of 2010.
The seven-year-old died in May of 2012 when a tree branch fell on his head. The accident happened at 36th and Grant; Jeremiah was playing with a friend, reportedly saw the branch falling, but couldn't get out of the way in time.
The cottonwood was 75 feet tell and over a hundred years old.
