Omaha, NE - Police cited a 78-year-old woman for destruction of property in a northwest Omaha neighborhood. She reportedly wrote a racist message on a neighbor's garage door.

The suspect is identified as 78-year-old Martha Dewitt. She lives near 97th and Ogden Circle.

According to police, on August 9th someone painted a hate message on the garage door of a home near 98th and Redman. The suspect also left a note on the front door.

Neighbors immediately condemned the crime. The Maple Village Neighborhood Association board released a statement saying, "Bullying and vandalism have no place in our community."

A news release called the messages "politically and racially-based" criminal activity. The board "condemned" the actions and warned neighbors to be on the lookout for similar crimes, which include graffiti, vandalism and theft of political yard signs.

Police say there may have been a witness to the crime--someone walking a dog nearby. Detectives are asking the person to contact detectives at 444-5835.
