Treynor, IA - Daniel Owens almost lost his arm the night he went for a ride on his bicycle. His wife snapped pictures of his arm just hours after a driver hit him then took off. "I broke my arm in four spots, I got two plates in there, 15 screws, and i had over 150 stitches," Daniel Owens said.

Owens went for a leisurely bike ride on the evening of July 10th. He was pedaling on the shoulder of Highway 92 east of Treynor, IA. Little did he know the ride would turn into nightmare he'd never forget.

Owens was headed west on his bicycle on Highway 92 when a pickup truck or SUV just got too close to him. The mirror struck his arm, throwing him to the ground. "The person who hit me left me for dead. It could have been more serious than it was and they didn't stop," Owens said.

The impact was so severe, it broke the mirror off the truck. It's now a key piece of evidence in the investigation. Police say a good samaritan spotted Owens and immediately called 911. "He was cycling correctly, he was off on the shoulder and the person would have actually had to leave the roadway at some point to strike Mr. Owens," Sgt. Dwayne Riche said.

Owens' family is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. If you know who may be responsible, call the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Department.
