Omaha, NE - A four-month-old puppy home alone--with no food, no water, no attention.

Tuesday a judge sentenced the puppy's owner--Monica Andrews--to 60 days in jail. The pitbull "Gotti" died at the home near 22nd and Lothrop.

A spokesman for the Humane Society told KMTV Action 3 News at the time: "It was extremely emaciated with its ribs, hip bones and vertebrae showing. The dog died a very sad death. A very hideous death for the dog."

Police say Andrews called the Nebraska Humane Society when she returned from an out-of-town trip last December and found Gotti dead. She wanted them to take away the dog's remains.

Mark Langan of the Humane Society said, "She simply didn't make any provisions for the dog whatsoever when she went out of town. She came back home and found the dog dead. It didn't appear to be that big a deal to her at the time."

Andrews faced up to five years in prison for felony animal cruelty but pleaded no contest to misdemeanor animal abuse. Douglas County District Court Judge Gregory Schatz sentenced her to 60 days.
