Lincoln Man Accused of UNL Library Arson Attempt
Police Say He Called when He Couldn't Get Out
Lincoln, NE (AP) - A 25-year-old man faces an arson charge, accused of setting fire to three books at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Love Library North. The Lincoln Journal Star reports that Joshua Hughes is suspected of starting the fires a little after 2:15 a.m. Wednesday. Court documents say Hughes was hiding in the library when it closed at 11 p.m. Tuesday. Police say Hughes called 911 for help because he couldn't find a way out of the library after the fire started. University officials say that other than the burned books, the library wasn't damaged. A Lancaster County jailer said Hughes remained in custody on Thursday, pending $25,000 bail. Online court records don't list the name of Hughes' attorney. (Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
