3-Year-Old Naked On Street With Pitbull "Tanker"; Dad Headed To Trial
Officers Looked For Parent For Over An Hour
Omaha, NE - A 23-year-old dad is headed to trial for child neglect after his toddler son wandered the street --naked--with his pitbull Tanker by his side.
Police say strangers stopped three-year-old Nicholas McKeever Jr. as he headed west on Ames Avenue at 3:30 in the afternoon, about a half mile from home. He had no clothes on, so the men put a t-shirt, jacket and diaper on the child and called police.
Officers say Nicholas only knew his first name, so they searched the area for an hour, knocking on doors, looking for anyone who knew who the boy was. No one had called 911 to report a missing child.
Finally officers took the boy to the leasing office at Maplewoood Estates to see if anyone knew the toddler or the dog when the mother arrived. She told them the father--Nicholas McKeever--was taking a shower when Nicholas Jr. disappeared with Tank.
When officers asked McKeever why he didn't call 911 to report him missing, he reportedly said he "did not know why he did not phone police." He added that "Nicholas has done this in the past and he has served time in jail for child neglect."
McKeever will stand trial for misdemeanor child neglect in May. He was also cited for having an unrestrained dog.
