UNO Students Honor Fallen Soldiers
Students place six thousand flags on campus
Omaha, NE - Students at UNO honor fallen soldiers with a very touching tribute. One-by-one they planted six thousand American flags at the UNO Pep Bowl. Each flag honors a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq or Afghanistan.
The week-long tribute will also include a ceremony where students will read the names of each service member who died fighting for our country.
"This year we weren't sure if we were gonna do it because the war in Iraq is over but we felt there's still Afghanistan and we still need to pay tribute to those giving the ultimate sacrifice," Alexandra Gilbert said.
This is the seventh year for the tribute, which is put on by the UNO College Democrats.
