A busy south Omaha intersection, on a nice day, quickley turned into a scary scene.

"it's a horrible sight to see."

A mother and her five year old daughter, Leslie Garcia, were crossing the street near 24th and H, when tragedy struck.

"The inside lane, there was a car coming. The woman didn't see the car, the child was leading, and the car went by, hit the child, the child spun around hit the mother with the rear view mirror", says a witness.

Police say the driver of the pickup, 36 year old Sergio Jimenez was heading south on 24th, and didn't see the little girl or her mother crossing the street.

The impact of the crash left five year old Leslie, unconscious.

Witnesses rushed to help the girl, until paramedics arrived.

"I jumped out of my vehicle, ran over there, we moved her off to the side of the road to get her out of the way of traffic and I started performing initial response."

"I'm a mother myself and it's just horrible to see a child injured."

The little girl suffered a fractured skill, and bleeding on her brain.

Officers held the driver in the back of a police cruiser, he was cited for driving during suspension.
