He'd just returned home from the hospital. 78 year old Robert, RC, Swiney was resting after having foot surgery, when all of the sudden, smoke and flames rip through his home. The elderly man, didn't make it out.

"Just sad, you know didn't expect this, coming as a surprise", says RC's son Randy Nobel.

Friday night, RC was getting ready for bed. His son Anthony told him good night, then left the house.

Anthony never imagined those would be his last words to his dad before returning Saturday morning to see their home on fire.

"Already knew it was my dad, that's the first thing that came to my mind, my dad", says son Anthony Swiney.

Firefighters found the elderly man alone, and unconscious. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, but it was too late.

The loving father, remembered for his kindness and generousity.

"A standup kinda guy, he loved to talk with people and help people out in any kind of way he could", adds Nobel.

Although RC's death is shocking to his family, they're all comforted, knowing he's in a better place.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, firefighters say there were no working smoke detectors inside.
