Bedbugs Found in Two Rooms at Fraternity House
School Also Steps up Efforts against Bedbugs
Lincoln, NE - Nearly a week after bed bugs were first spotted in Abel Hall, bedbugs were spotted in two rooms at the Phi Delta Theta fraternity house.
A representative from the house said exterminators checked it on Thursday, and that the public areas were sprayed and the two rooms treated with high heat to kill the bugs.
On the campus, students say housing officials have ramped up their fight against the parasites.
"I feel like we were a little misinformed at first, but they've done a good job of kinda catching us up with what's going on," Gretchen Pille said.
KMTV Action 3 News pushed for answers from day one. Since then, we've learned school officials have gone from checking a handful of rooms to now bringing in a dog to sniff for bed bugs in every room on floors eight and nine.
"It's really been on only two floors that we found a problem so it would seem not a very wise decision to treat the whole building until we know more," UNL Housing Director Sue Gildersleeve said.
So far four rooms at Abel Hall have been treated for bed bugs. Now university officials plan to check every room on floors eight and nine in hopes of preventing the bugs from spreading.
Students above and below the affected floors seem to be okay with the school's plan of action.
"I think they have it under control for the most part," Micah Lindble said.
"For the people who are a little more worried about it sure go ahead and search all the floors and see what happens," a student said.
Housing officials say they plan to bring in a dog to check rooms on floors eight and nine first thing Sunday morning.
